WHAT?

  • HODC (House of Dance Company) Try-outs.

  • House of Dance Company will be a selected Performance Group that will represent our House of Dance at community events, Dance Competitions and Conventions.

HOW?

  • Dancers must fill-out ELECTRONIC FORM before attending In-person Auditions. 

  • All electronic forms most be revised by parent or legal guardian.

 

  • Day One- June 15th-Technique and Combination Clinic
    Show off your technical abilities across the floor and learn the audition combination.

     

  • Day Two- June 16th- Performance Clinic
    Show off your Performance skills while executing the audition combination you learned on Day One.

     



 

WHEN?
June 15th & June 16th, 2022

DAY ONE- Technique Audition and Combination Clinic
Wednesday, June 15th

  • 6:30-7:15 (1st- 4th grade)

  • 7:30- 8:15 (5th-7th grade)

  • 8:30- 9:15 (8th-12th grade)

 

DAY TWO- Performance Audition 
Thursday, June 16th

  • 6:30-7:15 (1st- 4th grade)

  • 7:30- 8:15 (5th-7th grade)

  • 8:30- 9:15 (8th-12th grade)

WHERE?

  • Both In-Person Clinic/ Instruction and AUDITIONS will be held at HOUSE OF DANCE studio.

  • 18845 W. 158th St- Olathe, KS. 

WHO CAN TRY-OUT?

  • Any HOUSE OF DANCE dancer 6 yr planning to enroll in our 2021-2022 Dance Session is eligible to try-out for our Company.

  • All Company members will be required to be enrolled in Jazz Technique and Ballet Technique at HOUSE OF DANCE and attend their Company Class once a week.

WHAT TO WEAR?

  • All participants must wear black tops and black bottoms. (Leotard or fitted top/ Leggings, tights or fitted shorts)

  • All dancers will be given a number to pin to the front of their tops.

  • Bring Jazz shoes or Lyrical Shoes.

  • Hair is required to be pulled back into a sleek pony tail or sleek hair bun. (No fly-away hairs please)

AUDITION PROCESS

Auditions will include:

  • A brief progression across the floor to showcase their technical skills

  • Learned combination to showcase their dance performance presence 

WHO WILL LEAD TRY-OUTS?

Miss Gaby Lucas, Callie Lane and Brock Maze will lead dancers into progressions and choreography combinations.
Our Judging panel will include HOUSE OF DANCE staff and guests.

TECHNICAL JAZZ/LYRICAL SKILLS MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Group 1: Chasses, Single Pirouettes, Lindys, Straight Battements(kicks), Front Leaps, Chaines, Fan kicks.

  • Group 2: All of the above in addition to: Double Pirouettes, Leg splits, X leaps or Center Leaps, Coupe Pirouettes, Tilts/Tilt Jumps, Illusions

  • Group 3: All of the above in addition to: Turns in Second, Calypsos, Turning Centers, Renverses, Various Leaps (Surprise, Reversed), Double stack jumps, Axle Jumps/Turns.

EXPECTATIONS AT TRY-OUTS:

  • All dancers are expected to show a positive attitude and an open disposition to learn.

  • No verbal communication will be allowed with the judges.

  • No Food or Drink (other than water) will be allowed inside Studio A.

  • All dancers must arrive early to prepare for try-outs, warm-up on their own and fill out a tryout form.

RESULTS:

Results of tryouts will be e-mailed directly to parents including a copy of their Company Contract, Schedule of practices, Company classes and Competition dates.

SCORE SHEETS:

Judges will grade dancers in the following categories:
 

  • PRESENTATION

    • Appearance: Hair sleeked back, Appropriateness of clothing.

    • Presence:  Smile, Facial Expression, Dynamic Presence.

  • PARTICIPATION

    • Dancing full out without marking.

    • Applying corrections and recovering from mistakes.

    • Positive attitude while learning.

  • TECHNIQUE

    • Full movements, limb and torso extensions, pointing of feet.

    • Correct body alignment, core strength and balance.

    • Flexibility through torso.

    • Correct use of plies for jumping and landing.

    • Correct use of spot while turning.

  • PERFORMANCE

    • Execution of steps.

    • Energy when performing.

    • Musicality and Memory.

    • Engaging the audience while performing.

 

*All scores will be confidential.

IF I MAKE IT WHAT WILL BE MY TIME COMMITTMENT?

  • Company members will be required to attend their HODC group class every week (2.5 hours-5 hours) and occasional rehearsals on weekend when needed.

  • One- 2 day Dance Convention in the Fall

  • 2 or 3 full weekends for Regional Competition Circuits in the Spring.

  • At least 1 Open Community Event

  • Company Showcase in February or March (Date TBD)

  • Studio recital in late May or early June (Date TBD)

  • Specific Schedules will be e-mailed to every parent after Company dance numbers are formed.

 

All Company Members should reserve the following dates:

  • Friday August 19th - 7:00pm-8:00pm
    Contract Signed, 1st Company Meeting for Dancers and Parents

  • Monday-Thursday, August 22nd-25th- 5:30-8:30pm

WHAT IS THE ESTIMATED COST?

A general, rough estimate per company member costs about $1,500-2,500 per year.
All fees will be divided into affordable equal monthly installments.
This fee already includes:

  • Competition Fees- $300-600 (per year)

    • Includes 2 different group dances (small or large) at 2 local competitions.

  • Convention- $290-$310 (1 per year)

    • Includes 2 days of Master Classes with international renowned Choreographers/Instructors.

  • Choreography/Rehearsal/Weekly company class:

    • Includes Guest Artists, Choreography, Rehearsals, Music Editing, Coaching during Competitions, Conventions and Community presentations.

    • Company Performance Theater Rental, Design Fees and Staff fees.

  • Costumes, Accessories & Props-

    • For every group dance

  • Professional Competition Pictures-

    • For at least one Competition Circuit​

  • Fee does NOT include:
    HODC Company Jacket - $75
    Solos & Duets

  • All individual official fees, payment plans and due dates will be e-mailed to Company parents in their Welcome Packet. There will NOT be any hidden fees.
